I just got back from a four day family vacation in Orlando and I am exhausted. Three meals at McDonald’s, one at T Rex, one buffet in Sea World, one at Benihana (for free!) and one greasy chicken wrap in the Magic Kingdom. Did I mention the ice cream, and candy coated pretzel sticks? Those were amazing. I’m not going to lie.
Now I am sluggish and tired and my stomach hurts.
I need a detox.
Typically when I go on a little food binge (it happens) I need to do two weeks or so of careful eating to get back on track. It’s a little South Beach and a little Low Glycemic Index eating and it works for me. I find that when I really go off the wagon my body kind of begs to be brought back to better eating. Here is what I do:
Plain greek yogurt mixed with sugar free applesauce and blueberries. About a cup and a half total. I admit, I don’t often have time for breakfast and will sometimes eat this around 10 or 11am depending on what my day is like.
I also have coffee with skim milk and splenda. You will never talk me out of my coffee. I need it like sleep.
Chicken breast rolled in parmesan cheese, salt and pepper and baked for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. I like to make a whole bunch and keep in fridge for easy meals. I slice it up and eat it with veggies (I buy the ready cut kinds in the produce aisle) and hummus.
Either grilled chicken or soup. I like these recipe’s here and here! I will eat a large salad with balsamic vinegar and oil as well and some more cut up veggies.
I will either slice up more veggies (red and green peppers or cucumbers) or have a little bit more yogurt for the sweetness.
I do this for about two weeks and then slowly start introducing some carbs back into one meal. I find that I am a pretty routine eater. I am completely happy eating the same thing day and day out for awhile until I get sick of it and move on.
The biggest problem for me? My husband grumbling at me for making him eat the damn soup again and the fact that my beloved Moscato wine is out for the detox. Although! My bestie told me to drink flavored Vodka and Sprite Zero instead. Can you see why we are friends?
P.S. I am currently trying out the no wash for seven days hair experiment found here. I’m on day five…I have gotten more compliments on my hair in the past five days than in the last five years. Weird? Weird.
