Zara dress
Ask anyone that has known me over ten years and they will tell you I am obsessed with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. I may have even had pictures of her plastered all over my dorm room. She’s one of my girl crushes.
I have a lot of those by the way.
I have my classic girl crushes like Jackie O (hello, blog name!), Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner, etc. I collect and read old autobiographies and went through a phase of reading about every movie star I could find.
I also have my contemporary girl crushes like Lauren Conrad, Carrie Bradshaw, Emma Stone, Jessica Alba, Sydney Poulton, Emily Frame and Natalie Holbrook. The funny thing is, I like them all for different things. Classic, quirky, edgy, trendy…they all have something that I admire and look up to.
As for Carolyn, I love her because she had a minimalist style that speaks to me. I love the thought of a simple black dress accessorized with nothing but red lips and smoothly pulled back hair. No jewelry, no crazy accessories.
Simple.
Classic.
I find that most often when I get dressed up for something fancier I will gravitate towards this look. It’s a classic for a reason. I feel my best sometimes in simple things that stand the test of time. A crisp white shirt and black pants; a shift dress and black heels; a camel colored coat and jeans. I think that this look can never lead you astray. Then you can add in the fun, trendy accessories or items that make an outfit stand out and pop.
As for the dresses above, they showcase exactly what I’m trying to say. Sometimes all you need is a dress that has enough detail to stand out on its own. I like that quality when I am investing in a formal piece of clothing.
Tell me: WHO influences how you dress?
