We moved our three month old baby girl here and painted her room pink and set up her crib. We watched her roll over, sit up, crawl, walk. She had a baby swing in the backyard and a plastic pool and (one horrible day) sprayed a bottle of red Gatorade all over her carpet in a fit of temper. Every memory she has is in this house.
My son grew in my belly here, his first kicks and rolls were felt while laying in this bedroom. He was brought home in a carseat at 10 o’clock at night, impossibly small. He slept in a pack and play in the corner of our room for two months, close enough to pick up and feed at 3am. He learned how to roll over, sit up, crawl and walk on these floors. Every memory he has in in this house.
We celebrated our 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th wedding anniversaries here. I painted all 3000 square feet, including the laundry room around each shelf with a watercolor paintbrush. We ripped up the carpets and installed wood floors, built a fence out back, cleared the land and made paths in the woods for the kids to explore. After renting this house for three years we bought it, impulsively in 2010. It is the first home we have ever owned.
This summer we will pack everything up and move. My husband is in the military and this is what we do. We move. We transplant ourselves every four years and completely start over. It is scary and exhilarating at the same time. We hope to know soon where, but for now I am enjoying our last months here.
In this house.
