Let’s talk weaves. As in, I had no idea that my entire hair issues in life could be solved with a weave. Seriously! I always thought all these amazing blog gals had naturally gorgeous, flowing locks. Let me be the first to tell you, its a fake out. They’re wearing weaves.
I think I have made no secret about the fact that my hair is sad. It is thin and not as long as I would like. I am also having some major issues with hair color, but that is a whole different post, sister. Ugh.
I saw a weave tutorial recently and figured it was time for me to explore this awesome hair with no effort thing. Try, just try to watch this video and not die laughing, then wish you could sit and drink a glass
a box of wine with this girl.
I ordered the 24 inch, 7 piece set in darkest brown. Huge shout out to my in laws who bought this weave for me for Christmas! Best. Present. Ever. When it arrived I was surprised by how well it matched my hair and how natural it felt. I did order the human hair kind as I have a synthetic pony that just doesn’t seem all that natural in daylight.
The first thing I did was wash it with baby shampoo in my sink as it had a funny smell to it. I squeezed the water out with my hands and layed it out on towels to dry. In the morning I combed it out carefully. I googled all this weave care info and found you care for it as you do your own hair. Go figure.
In hindsight, the 24 inch was waaaaaay too long. It went down to my bum and after I had a little fun feeling all Kim Kardashian-like I ended up getting it trimmed at Supercuts. I wore it in and they just cut it so that it went to my mid back area. It cost $7 and the lady working there only thought I was mildly weird.
Now I have long, lush, thick hair that I barely even know is clipped in. It is lightweight and I am surprised by how well it matched my own hair. Lesson of the day? Run, don’t walk and buy a weave.
Second order of business? Straight irons. I live in Florida, which means my hair lives in a rain forest and needs to be tamed heavily with strong heat. Especially around my face where I have funky, short pieces that drive me crazy and stick out like devil horns. Misikko.com was kind enough to send me one of their Hana Professional 1 inch flat irons. First of all, their packaging is amazing! Angel ornaments, eyeshadow brushes, nail files, pretty flowers….the box is packed with goodies that made my four year old squeal with glee. It was a fun surprise.
The straight iron works like a dream. I have been using a cheap version I bought years ago and I had forgotten how nice it is to only pass over a piece of hair once! I love how smooth and straight my hair gets using this straight iron. I also love the rubber heating pad in comes with as my bathroom counter is riddled with heat marks. No more. It also comes with a travel bag, which I can’t wait to try out when we go to Disney next month.
Lastly (whew this is a long one!) I need to give a shout out to at home waxing. Without it I would have a mini mustache and hair on my toes and such. Gross, but true.
On that note, get a weave! I promise you will love it.
