When we told her we were going to the hotel and T Rex. And a homemade, tilted birthday cake.
My little Molly Amelia turned five last week and we surprised her with a trip to Disney. Disney! Is there a more magical place? We drove down on Tuesday and went to Downtown Disney for dinner in our fave restaurant, T Rex. What? You don’t like dining in a place where animatronic dinosaurs move and they have meteor showers every 10 minutes or so? But wait! They serve massive draft beers. Better? Better.
We ate and had the waiter come out singing “Happy Birthday” and it was the first time I saw her embarrassed, ever. She hid her face and only at the end did she look up and blow out her candle. Apparently five is the age in which they realize having people sing ridiculous songs and clap loudly in a crowded restaurant is not amazing?
After dinner we walked around and let the kids pick out something in the store with money they had saved and Molly longingly touched all the Princess dresses (more on that later!) At this point she thought her birthday surprise was just the hotel visit and going out to eat. She had no idea we were going to the park the next day. Squeeeeeee!
On another note, what do you wear to Disney that is comfortable but still relatively cute? I’ve gotten this down to a science in the 5 years we have lived so close to the parks. First up? Comfortable shoes. I have walked countless hours in either flip flops or something that offers no support and I have paid for it. The first night I wore my new camo flats since we were only out a couple of hours. I wore my Minnetonka moccasin boots for our marathon 12 hours in the park and they were amazing. Lightweight and easy (and cute!)
My next favorite item is a maxi skirt. (I’m eying this one at Target right now.) You’ve seen this skirt before for a reason, it works with everything and is nice and stretchy to accommodate the ridiculous eating you do in Disney. Throw on a slouchy tee and a fun necklace and you are good to go.
Lastly, the slouchy tee I spoke about. I bought it for $10 at Target and they are perfect. Not to thin, not too thick and it is long enough to do that cool half tuck thing you see everywhere.
Honorable mentions: a striped cardi and faux ripped boyfriend jeans. I wear these items a lot…or everyday.
More on our trip coming soon (err, later?)!
