I’ve been noticing a lot lately when perusing blogs and various mean web sites (that shall not be named) that there is an awful need to call people out for copycatting. Now I’m not talking about stealing entire blog posts, ideas or images, that is wrong. I’m talking about getting inspiration from others and using that to better yourself in some way. Some of my fave go to looks (top knots! red lips! glasses!) have come from other blogs and people I admire. I tend to become obsessed with someone and look to them for looks I can use in my life. I don’t consider this copying, I consider this inspiration.
I know that I am not an inherently creative person. I just don’t have a lot of creativity living inside me. Some people do and I really admire that. My sister in law is one of those people. She just has all these creative ideas in her head, like striped living room walls and creative kid activities. I would hate her if I didn’t know her, you know? She is that creative.
I love being inspired by things I see online or in magazines. Often one picture will create an entire outfit or design for my home that I never would have thought of on my own. Pinterest is great for that, as is People StyleWatch and Lucky Magazine. I love seeing a picture that will inspire me to try something new or different. I adore seeing how my favorite blog girls put outfits together or write in a certain way that really resonates with me.
I am a learner and I really enjoy discovering new ways to do things or better myself. I adore self help, style, child rearing and design books. I am an avid reader and love to write. I get my inspiration from so many places and feel that (if?) someone were to copy me I would be thrilled. Isn’t that the sincerest form of flattery? I’ve learned a lot in this year or so of blogging about fashion and how I want to present myself. I’ve learned how to showcase my style in a way that fits my life and my personality. I love trying new things and if occasionally I copy an theme or look from an image I see, I mean it in the most sincere way possible.
Tell me, where do you get your inspiration from? What do you think of copycatting in the blog world? Is anything new again or do we all just get inspired by the same images?
