–Thursday afternoon I let my kids make mud pies and throw them at each other. They put on clothes I was willing to throw out, ran the hose into a little dirt pile we have behind our fence and filled buckets and buckets with mud. The looks on their faces when I told them they could actually throw it at each other was priceless! They tossed it in each others faces and rubbed it all over their bodies (???) and had a blast. I sat and laughed (far away from the area of destruction!) and took a zillion pictures. Not shown? The condition of their bathtub after I cleaned them off.
–Friday afternoon the kids had their friends over and played outside all afternoon. Which opened me up to an hour catching up on dvr’d episodes of Rachel Zoe and having
one two hard ciders as soon as the clock turned five. Happy Friday to me.
P.S. Is anyone else annoyed by the way Rachel says “Oh my gawd,” in a little girl baby voice? It hurts my soul, I tell ya. Kinda like when Mickey Mouse shouts, “That’s MEEEE!” at the end of Micky Mouse Clubhouse? Shuddering.
–Saturday morning we went to the lake for the first time this year despite my husband trying to tell me it was “too cold.” It was 78. Picture lawn chairs, a new fringe bikini, subs from Publix and the new US Weekly. Sounds amazing, right?
I didn’t go in the water, though, because (darn it!) my husband was right, it was a little “chilly”. My Florida bum is going to freeze next winter in Michigan…
Also, can I mention how all of a sudden my kids can go play by themselves and don’t need constant entertainment? Imagine sunbeams shooting down from heaven and harps playing while I do a little dance in my chair by the water. I’ve been waiting five years for days like these. It was worth it.
–Saturday night my family came over for dinner because my grandparents are moving back to New Hampshire for the summer. For the past two years they have stayed at my mom’s house for the winter (she lives down the street from me) and it has been really fun having them all close by again. This year was a little bittersweet because we are moving and I don’t know when I will see them again. Our move to Michigan means moving away from my mom, who relocated here to be close to us. We have been really lucky to be so close during our five years in Jacksonville. Being a first generation military family on my side means we have to figure out a way of life that is totally different then what I grew up like. My kids will change schools often, move at least three more times and most likely never live near loved ones. I’m still figuring out how to make this work successfully.
–Sunday I stopped by Target on my way to the grocery store (what? it is on the way…) and bought the cutest cross earrings, studded hat, spike bracelet and a cuff that looks like a bow. I think it is a new line of jewelry they have and it was all so cute! Pictures to come this week to show off the individual pieces.
I also returned that sequin bikini in the pictures above because the sequins were pulling off already and I hadn’t even worn it yet. Darn!
–That brings me to right now, where I am sitting next to Molly while she makes an art project (“don’t look, mom!”), chili is simmering on the stove and it is juuuuust about time to pour a glass of wine.
Tell me, how was YOUR weekend?
