Brady, the cornhole extraordinaire.
Some of the things that make summer extra delicious:
Children running through the grass looking for fireflies at dusk.
Cornhole, cricket, basketball and frisbee games galore.
S’mores cooked to burnt perfection over a fire.
Children’s faces lit up by fireworks that pop and make pretty lights in the night.
Hair that smells like a campfire as you get ready for bed.
Bedtimes that are pushed back until exhausted children fall asleep with sticky hands and dirty feet.
Burgers eaten in a garage on lawn chairs while the rain falls outside.
Glow sticks and magic wands lighting up the night.
Damp bathing suits, the smell of sunscreen, and wind dried hair.
Music played on an iPod that bring back smiles and “remember this one time….”
Old friends that remember all the good times and celebrate the new.
We are spending a couple of days in Indiana at college friends’ home. Late nights, fun stories of days gone by and evenings that stretch on into forever since the sun doesn’t set until close till 9pm. We keep looking at the kids running around chasing fireflies while we sit by the fire with cold drinks and the only thing you can think of is, “life is good.”
Sunday we leave to do the final drive into Traverse City, Michigan. We found out that we can’t get our household goods (you know, the truck that has everything we own on it) until July 10th. That means another two weeks or so with no place to go and the mind boggling thought of “dear God, don’t make me stay in a hotel room that long with my two kids!” We ended up finding a cottage on a lake to rent for those 10 days (hallelujah!) You know, just a lake house with three bedrooms, Internet access and lakefront with shallow water for the kids to play in all day. Is that the definition of heaven? Now I can relax, pull up a lawn chair and blog from my little slice of good luck on the shores of Michigan.
Life is good.
