Kiki La’ Rue dress (option and similar); Target scarf and tote (similar); Lemons and Lace headband (similar.)
Can I mention I wore this outfit while crouching in a doctors office holding a specimen cup for my four year old son to aim into? I live a glamorous life.
I’ve been on the search for new, attainable fashion/style blogs to follow and they seem to be missing. I’ve looked through Blog Lovin on their “popular” page and just see high fashion/street style type blogs everywhere. Tall, model type girls running through the streets of Paris and wearing designer clothes. As much as I love a beautiful photograph and magazine style layout, I feel like they all blend together. There isn’t anything inspiring to me about expensive clothes worn by women with unlimited budgets. In my opinion (don’t hate me) I think anyone can look great with enough money for designer items. Except Britney Spears, she never seems to look better than my worst college days no matter how much she has, am I right?
I’m inspired by real women, women who can shop at the stores I can afford, and have an occasional splurge and still look amazing. I want unique, edgy, fun, girly, style icons to follow. Is that too much to ask? I want to be wowed and inspired and I want to see something that makes me think. Can I pull off a certain look that she wears? Can I step outside my style comfort box and be different?
Don’t get me wrong, I have found this quality in a lot of blogs out there, but I feel that the most popular ones, the ones that seem to be the most successful are the ones I cannot relate to. Most of them are carbon copies of each other, dressing the same and wearing the same (super expensive) items. I’m definitely guilty of having a lot of things that seem to be everywhere (hello Philip Lim bag!) and I do buy items if a blogger I relate to and admire shows me something I haven’t seen before. There just seems to be very few unique blogs style blogs in my demographic that have that it factor, that something that makes me want to try something new. I’m talking about women like me that are in their 30’s, with real budgets and real lives. Real women that inspire me to be my best (stylish) self. I do have many favorites that I adore and feel hit that sweet spot for me. They are real and fashionable and amazing. Attainable style blogs do exist, I just wish there were more.
Let’s talk What She Wears, shall we? The October edition is all about scarves and I was super excited about this until we had unseasonably warm weather for the past two weeks or so, making scarves not really necessary. I have so many good ones, too! Fur ones and cozy red knit ones and the like. Bummer. I compromised by wearing my chevron meets army green Target one loosely around my neck with my favorite new maxi dress. It felt sort of hippy-ish and cool and more me. I’m not a big fan of a lot of fuss and extras in an outfit ( it makes me feel trapped and sort of like the Incredible Hulk when he screams and busts out of his shirt?) Not normal.
What I need from you! Link up YOUR favorite scarf look below. The link up will be open for the next week and there are NO RULES. Just visit the blogs that participate and say hello and such, because that’s half the fun with link ups, hmmm? You can see my look above, below are my amazing co hosts looks as well. They rock.
Oh! We will each be choosing our faves and showing them on our blogs next Tuesday as well, so (hello!) free advertising and the thrill of “winning” thrown in, too.
