When it comes to layering I usually stick to a few tried and true pieces that I wear over and over and then mix up my jewelry and such to make things a little more interesting. I’m a simple person when it comes to clothes. I like to be comfortable, but still look good and feel like me, you know? Here are my steps to creating a fun layered look:
1) I think a fur (faux) vest is one of the best pieces to have in your closet. They work in every situation, dressed up over a fancier look or over jeans and a tunic. I have two (a white and a black) and wear them constantly. I love to wear vests over a denim jacket the most, as I think it makes them look more casual and cool that way? They also look great under a lightweight jacket (my camo one is a fave) and over dresses and boots. Really, the possible combination are endless.
2) I love a longer, neutral color tunic length top. It feels like most tops stop right at the awkward thigh area and cut you off at the wrong place. (I hate that.) I bought my black tunic top through QVC and adore it. The fabric is soft and slightly stretchy, and after almost two tears of constant use and washes it still looks like new. I have a similar one in red and would love to add a classic gray. I also just ordered one of these long tanks for layering (they just may be my new addiction!) Tunics look great under sweaters with skinny jeans or over patterned leggings and cute boots.
3) In the cooler months the most fun you can have with your look sometimes is through footwear. Something funky and fun is what I look for, not to mention comfort and ease of wear. I’m not traipsing through the snow in heels, you know? I love my Minnetonka fringe boots and I’ve been drooling over the taller version for a year or so, they are sort of amazing:)
4) The last part of the equation for me is a great pair of skinny jeans or leggings. Patterned versions are great as they add a lot of interest and instantly jazz up a neutral color palette. I’ve noticed recently that Target has great legging options (tribal, floral, pleather accented and even fleece lined leopard) and they’ve also been killing it in the cool pants department (polka dot, floral, distressed light wash and studded.)
Now it’s your turn to show me how you rock a layered look! Link up below (there are no rules!) and next week I will pick my personal favorite and show you off on my blog, along with the theme for December. I’ll also show my favorite looks on Instagram as well if you tag me (@becauseofjackie) with your look and use the hashtag #whatshewears.
P.S. These other ladies are hosting as well (Rebecca, Jalynn, Brandi and Dawnelle), so stop by and say hello. That’s half the fun in a link up, right?
