The past six months of this year has been a learning experience for me. Which is sort of the best, isn’t it? I am a nerdy girl deep inside and self improvement and education warms my little heart;) It’s our first move in a long time away from close family and we have been relishing in discovering how perfect it is to be a family of four (with two kids at such a great age for exploring!) Being in this place, at this moment in time, feels peaceful and sort of like it’s meant to be. Life keeps getting better and better, and I don’t know if it is age or what, but life is good.
Oh July, is there any summer month that is better? Perfect weather, daylight till nearly 11pm and lots of running through sprinklers, swimming in the lake and cookouts with great friends. We moved into our new house and painted our little hearts out until it began to look like home. Lowe’s was starting to become a little too familiar, but we settled in and really got to know our new surroundings. Also, can we discuss the perfection of small town Fourth of July parades and picking handfuls of sweet, juicy cherries right off the tree? I love this place.
August is birthday month around here, my baby turned FOUR and I turned thirty three and we celebrated with cakes made by my mama (is there any better cake?) and delicious date nights on warm summer nights (and a boat ride around the bay, too.) Also, did you know Traverse City has a food truck community, where you can indulge to your hearts content on any given night? If you haven’t noticed by now, my love can be won by feeding me good food and great wine;)
In September my baby girl started Kindergarten(!) and my baby boy went to preschool a couple of times a week and I learned the blessed world of all mama’s who have kids in school. (It’s amazing!) Two days a week all to myself to recharge and learn how to be a better mom/wife/friend and maybe even more time to go to Target. Alone. We built a fire pit (er, my husband did…I just enjoyed the end result…), and went apple picking, along with all those other delicious activities September has to offer. Yum…..S’more’s….
October! The best Fall month (in my opinion), where the air is crisp and you can feel the crunch of leaves underfoot and you can still wear cute clothes without five hundred layers of jackets. Sigh. I miss October. On that note, I also got to go to New York City and put on my big girl outfits for the Lucky Magazine (Lucky fabb) blogger conference. I learned a ton and it was really refreshing to talk blog talk with those that just love it as much as I do. I also got to visit my bestie and cuddle her adorable babies. Win/win for ME.
November was the month of the first of all this snow we have gotten and my Florida babies got to go sledding and throw snowballs (and eat massive quantities of snow?) for the first time ever. I also learned that unzipped jackets and Hunter boots are NOT warm enough in Michigan. Lesson learned.
I think as a mom that December is so magical because you get to relive all the mysteries and wonders of Christmas all over again. We watched all the TV specials, visited Santa when he flew in on his helicopter (we’re a Coastie family, what can I say?), and see their eyes on Christmas Day when they saw that Santa DID come and they weren’t on the naughty list after all;) We stayed in pajamas all day and into the next and ate delicious quantities of prime rib and gluttonous amounts of chocolate and went to bed happy as can be. Each year keeps getting better and better when I get to see life through their eyes, and I just know that 2014 is going to top it.
Lastly, I want to wish YOU a Happy New Year and thank you so much for reading what I have to say on a daily basis, emailing me thoughts and questions, and connecting through social media. I am honored to be a part of your lives and that you let me in yours. Here’s to a great, amazing, blessed New Year.
