. I would cut out pictures of the models who looked like the book characters I was reading about (remember Flowers in the Attic?) I liked to find people that looked like the characters in that series and cut them out, pasting them into a collage. Which is a totally creepy since this is a series of books that seems to be a cult fave for a generation of girls, and you sort of wonder why if you reread it as an adult. Weird.

When I was a little girl my mom and Grandmother would both get tons of catalogues in the mail. They resided in baskets next to “their” chairs (which no one sat in mama’s chair, or you were booted out immediately), and were always there for viewing. This was back in the dinosaur ages when there was no Internet (gasp!) and shopping was done by catalogue or in store only. I know.
So we would sit there, three generations of women who would visit and raid each other’s catalogue sources and show each other what we loved. My personal favorite was < a[rel=”nofollow”] href=”http://www.spiegel.com/”>Spiegel
I’m not sure why the Spiegel catalogue intrigued me so much as a nine year old. Maybe it was the models and the classic clothes? Perhaps it seemed grown up and everything about growing up interested me? I wanted to be these women, these self assured women who dressed in suits and dresses and heels and had it all together. I recently revisited the website and found a ton of options that I wanted to share, both for work and for fun. I haven’t worked outside the home in quite awhile, but I love a classic and clean work wardrobe. Simple, well made looks that can be re-worn an thousand different ways.
You can never go wrong with a black shift dress. Ever. It can be worn classic or edgy, pretty or funky…literally every way under the sun and it works with every situation. Also, it looks amazing in red!
A fit and flare little black dress. Throw on a cardi or jacket for work, or wear an awesome statement necklace and killer heels at night. Boom.
These shirred pants have that look of a harem pant, but the fabric and color makes them so much better than that. I need them.
I would wear this hi lo, flowered printed dress in the Summer, with strappy gladiator sandals and a flirty, boho headband. This all black version is awesome, too!
I love the modern lines of this dress, the shape of it seems fresh and new.
I can’t help but smile when I remember looking through all these catalogues long ago, kept in a well worn basket beside an aging recliner. My mom still does this and it is one of the first things I do when going to her house. I rifle through her basket of gems and we swap them back and forth, dog- earing the pages we like. It’s something I can always count on, no matter how much time or distance is between us.
Tell me, do you remember the catalogues of the past? Which was your favorite?
This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own! I value your readership and would never show anything I didn’t love or something I didn’t think you would love as well. I value you too much for that;)
