My skin has been hating me as of late (let’s not discuss the weird rash on my face…), so I’ve been into keeping my products as natural-ish as possible. I’m a big fan of traditional drug store brands, bought generic of course), like Cetaphil moisturizers and CeraVe face wash. I haven’t found anything I like better than these products, and why spend more when you don’t have to? Another thing I save on is Coconut oil. I think I paid $8 for a jar of the organic stuff at my local grocery store and I’ve barely scratched the surface of that bad boy over the past month. It is wonderful for moisturizing and sinks right in. One thing I’ve learned about putting oils on my face is that they don’t make you break out, but you have to be careful about which kind you get. A lot of the cheap stuff has mineral oil in it, and that will cause your skin to react like a 14 year old hormonal boy, just saying.
One of my favorite things to do after washing my face when I wake up and before bed, is to use Josie Maran’s Argan oil as a base moisturizer. It feels so nice going on and does not make me break out, ever. In the morning I wear it with Cetaphil sunscreen under my makeup, and at night I layer it with organic coconut oil for extra moisture. I also use both of these products on my kids and feel good about using it on their sensitive skin. I’ve recently thrown a lot of makeup away and started new after my skin revolted on me in the past month (see rash issue above), and I’ve been loving the products I’ve gotten from Tarte. I don’t like a lot of foundation, so the color corrector stick works really well for a light coverage day. I also have their cream blush in stick form and it is so easy to apply. I just dab it on my cheeks and blend it with my fingers and it is good to go. It also lasts all day, which is important as I rarely re apply makeup.
My two fave eyeliners (something I DO wear every second of my life), are Urban Decay’s 24/7 liners, and Tarte smolderize liners. Both of these brands glide on easily and have great color options. I think it’s fun to switch up basic black and brown with aqua, purple, or electric blue. If I had to pick one of these, Urban Decay’s liners last forever, so I think the cost per wear are pretty good on these;)
One of my biggest splurges is my shampoo. I buy the Wen cleansing conditioner and have really felt a difference in my hair since I started using it last December. It is expensive and you do have to use a lot to get good results, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you are an everyday hair washer, but if you are like me and do a twice weekly hair wash, than this is a great buy. It makes me hair so soft and manageable and I love that it doesn’t strip my hair. I also use this on my daughter and she loves it. She has very curly, thick hair, and I notice that it doesn’t look as frizzy since we started using it. I bought a kit off of QVC last year, it had about 5 bottles of the cleansing conditioner and we have gone through maybe two and a half bottles between the two of us. I have it on auto delivery and get another shipment in May. I feel this is an investment (it’s not cheap!), but worth it. I think it ends up being about $18 per bottle, and a bottle lasts me approx. a month, which isn’t all that much when it comes to having good hair for the first time…ever.
My last, most favorite products of all time are my Philosophy lotions and perfumes. I go back and forth between the Pure Grace and Amazing Grace scents, but I also get compliments on how good I smell and these scents/products make me happy. They are fresh and light and NOT overpowering, something that traditional perfumes/lotions tend to be. Right now I have a huge pump bottle of the Pure Grace lotion in my bathroom that lasts me three months, and I layer it with the Amazing Grace perfume. Every once in a while I will add in the Falling In Love perfume on a special occasion, that has a pretty, fruity smell that is perfect for date night. I really love all of the products Philosophy comes out with, but they can get expensive. I like to narrow it down to what I love the most, and the lotion and perfume always win.
Honorable mention: Josie Maran’s vanilla and apricot body butter (the smell is delicious), and her hair serum is amazing. I really love everything in her line, but can’t afford it on a regular basis. I recommend her products and adore them.
