Three years (and 689 posts!) ago, I decided to take a leap and press publish on my very first post. I didn’t have a goal, a schedule, or any idea of what I wanted to do with this space. I wrote haphazardly for the first 8 months, just writing down what I had on my mind at that moment. It wasn’t until I saw a pin on Pinterest of a very famous fashion blogger that I decided to write here more regularly.
I haven’t stopped since.
I haven’t always had a clear vision of what I wanted to do here (I’m still tweaking it to find that perfect balance, which may or may not ever come), and have made a ton of mistakes along the way. I didn’t start out to make money, or think I could ever be noticed by companies I admire. I just wanted to give myself a reason to dress up and document my thoughts on style and life. I was a mom with two young babies at home and I was drowning in the monotony of being everything to others and nothing for me.
This space gives me so much on a daily basis. I get to write and get responses from my writing, I get to dress up and play stylist for myself, I make enough money to call this a part time job(!), I use marketing, networking and negotiating skills daily. In a way, this is the only job I’ve ever had that makes me excited to wake up and see what is coming next. I relish coming up with new post ideas and meeting those that come and read daily. I feel like this blog is the essence of me, and I am the only one responsible for either making it a success or a failure.
In other words, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to create content that not only do people enjoy reading, but I love doing, and isn’t that all that matters? I’m not going to say that I don’t pay attention to page views, or get excited when my numbers grow, but my biggest joy is writing something that resonates with YOU. I’d like to think if myself as a writer first. It’s what I enjoy the most and is the word I write down every month in my day planner when it asks what is important to me. I want to write posts and create content that gives back in some way, whether it be through a style post or a ‘from the heart’ piece. Sharing little bits of my soul, connecting with those around me and making others feel better after reading what I have to write is important to me.
You are important to me.
Thanks for coming here daily, for the comments and the emails, the interaction on social media, the calls and texts. I’ve made real connections here and for that I am thankful. On that note, I wanted to do two things to thank you on my three year blogiversary:
ONE is the giveaway I posted about yesterday, and TWO is the sale I’m having on ALL ad spots through the month of April. Use the code anniversary for 25% off all the spots I offer (Contributing editor and the Group Giveaway.) You can pre book and still save, both options are proven to increase readership and I would love to work with you! A lot of my sponsors come back for multiple months of sponsorship, which is the greatest compliment and shows that they have liked their experience here;)
