This Summer I’ve decided I’m going to…
Put down my phone and actually enjoy the people around me more. This means leaving it at home when I can, and continuing to not use it for social media from 3pm till my kids go to bed, and never on Sundays. Being present is more important sometimes, no?
Lay on my bed, with an oscillating fan blowing and the curtains fluttering, and read books in the quiet of a hot afternoon.
Wear less makeup, fuss less with my hair, and embrace imperfections. Hair can be messier, freckles can show through, and clothes can be a bit more relaxed and easy. (Is there anything more perfect than cutoff denim and a white v neck tee?)
Take more walks and bike rides with my kids.
Go to a drive in movie!
Look for the best in people and situations, and forgive more of the things that get me down.
I’ve already decided to post a bit less while my kids are in school vacation, and it has been wonderful for my well being and sense of ease this Summer. I’ll be back with a vengeance in the Fall!
I’ve been working on connecting more with my kids, taking the time to really hear them and address their needs instead of rushing along or blowing them off. It has (so far) worked wonders on behavior.
Drink ice coffee by the gallon on my back deck under an umbrella.
Sit in a beach chair as often as possible, in my retro red and white polka dot swimsuit, and enjoy this season.
Throw away routine when we can, and be more spontaneous and fun.
Get a babysitter more often and go on date nights with my husband. Last one was in February. Ouch.
Have whole days where I don’t even turn on my computer.
Purge all the items that I unpacked last year that I haven’t even looked at, and give them away to the Goodwill. Cleaning out clutter does my heart good.
Wear whatever makes me feel free and happy, even if it is the same kimono and maxi dress, over (and over, and over!) again.
Tell me, what are YOU going to do this Summer?
