Tell me, how do you like to stay cool in the Summer?

Generally speaking, on any given day in the Summer my kids and I have any one of these three plans:
1) Go to the lake and play endlessly in the sand (er, they play, I read!), as well as the playground located conveniently steps away from the beach;
2) Visit the amazing resort pool we have access to as members of the Coast Guard, where food is delivered to your pool lounger (seriously), the pool is heated, and it overlooks an amazing beach on Lake Michigan. Pinch me! Or,
3) We run errands (grocery shop, go to the gym, etc.), then come home and run through the sprinklers 53,876 times in the backyard, with a possible swim in our neighbor’s pool mid afternoon.
We also just recently bought a new patio table and chairs, and I love sitting under the umbrella with my laptop, writing away, and watching the kids. Our backyard has a huge tree in the middle, where a tire swing hangs, and we also have one of those massive trampoline’s (left over from previous owners), and swing set. It’s basically a child’s dream come true back there, and it’s mine as well. The tree creates this beautiful sun dappled effect, the grass seems to get more lush and green by the day, and we have no schedule or place to be.
My two kids live in their bathing suits, their hair is always plastered to their face because the other one has blasted them with the hose, and despite my constant sunscreen application, they have super cute tan lined bums. Summer is awesome, isn’t? Last Sunday morning we were bored, so we decided to wander around Target a bit, where they find a trinket or two from the dollar section, I look at the makeup (oh fine, and the shoes/clothes/books/accessories…), and on impulse picked up some Fruttare Fruit bars. They have a bunch of flavors, but what captured out hearts were the Coconut and Milk (them), and the Strawberry and Milk (me) flavors.
Fast forward a couple of hours, to all of us getting a little overheated and ready for a snack. We sat our bums on the porch steps and broke open our Fruttare frozen fruit bars. I chose the Strawberry and Milk, they chose the Coconut and Milk, and we enjoyed them (er, actually we inhaled them), in a quiet moment outside. They were so good! So good that we each had to sample the flavor we didn’t get, and then maybe, just possibly, had one more;) They were refreshing, full of real fruit taste and all that healthy goodness, and really hit the spot. We loved them so much we picked up another two boxes at Meijer this past Wednesday, because I don’t want to run out! I think they’re a great afternoon snack, on a sunny, Summer day in Michigan, when you want a little pick me up. It’s funny, too. The whole time we were eating the them, my daughter kept saying, “These are so amazing, they taste JUST LIKE A COCONUT!.” Which they do, hence the name of the flavor. I felt the same way about the Strawberry and Milk flavor (SO GOOD.) The good thing is, Fruttare Fruit Bars can be found nationwide in a variety of stores (including Target…winning!), which makes it so easy to enjoy these delicious treats.
As for looking cool this Summer? I’m such a huge fan of a fun, printed one piece suit. (That and retro, high waisted bikini’s, but that’s another post….;)You can throw it on with a fun pair of shorts (or palazzo pants!), add in a hat and retro sunglasses, and it’s instant coolness. For specific outfit details, including where it’s all from, I will post it on my Facebook page today!
