My blogging goals tend to change from month to month, or they start out one way and slowly morph into something else. For a couple of years I only waned to grow and expand my readership, and I focused most of my energy on that. Now that my readership is at a great place (though growth is always something I will always work towards…), my focus has changed.
Here are my top three blogging goals, RIGHT NOW:
1) My biggest priority is to create content that I enjoy writing. When I take out the “should’s” of blogging I come back to what is important to me: writing content that excites me and makes me want to come back for more. I love the writing aspect of blogging the most, publishing something that will resonate with my readers and open up a dialogue. I recently wrote a post about how it gets better as my children have gotten older, and it seemed to hit a nerve among those that read here, and on social media. Getting emails saying that something I have written has touched one of you? That is what keeps me coming back day after year, month after month, day after day.
2) My second goal is to engage with the readership I already have, rather than constantly searching for more. I try really hard to comment on the blogs of those that come and comment here, and to reply to your emails. Some folks are unreachable (non bloggers, no reply bloggers, etc.), but for the most part if I can find you and answer a question, or visit your blog, I will. I have made some great friends over the past dew years, and often it starts with simple comment, an exchange of email replies, and an interaction on social media. I am always thrilled to have you read here, and most likely it ends up with me becoming addicted to YOUR blog, and then a friendship is born. I love that.
3) My third goal is more of a personal one, but I always want to learn how to be a better blogger. Whether that be on the business side of it (accounting, marketing myself, business interactions), the writing side (creating viable content that keeps you coming back, reading great writing that inspires me), or the photography side (learning skills to take better pictures of myself, finding new spots to create great photographs, etc.) I want to grow and get better each month. When I look in my archives (which can be SCARY), I see growth. I see skills that have changed for the better, and I know I have learned a lot. I am still learning new tricks daily to make this blog a better and more readable place. I want to be useful and helpful for YOU, and that keeps me coming back for more.
Tell me, what are your blogging goals?
