The call came at noon last Friday.
“Hey! We won tickets to a concert tonight, can we get a babysitter?”
There’s something to be said for a long awaited, and completely unexpected, date night. You rush home from the pool and hurry to get the kids ready for a sleepover, while simultaneously trying to get ready fast yourself and have everyone get where they need to be. You anxiously await your husband to get home from work, excited that this night is different than all the nights that came before, because it’s date night and date night is awesome. Then he arrives home and changes quick and you are finally off on a balmy summer evening. Alone! Together!
It’s magic.
You drive with the windows down, and walk hand in hand through the crowd of concert goers. You arrive to your second row seats in an open air amphitheater, where the sun is shining its golden glow over the crowd. The music is amazing, the setting so picture perfect that you know you will think of this night often during the long wait for another night out, because they are rare and special and worth every second. Then he puts his arm around you during the terribly romantic love songs and you remember that this, THIS, is why you fell in love and adore this man.
Did I mention I love a great date night? 😉
