What is this one ingredient, you ask… (you DID ask, right?) Ha. This miracle product is OIL. And yes I’m asking you to put it one your face. Don’t freak out! I know that every woman out there who has broken out or has oily issues (I have dry and oily, yay!), this seems nuts. I initially thought so, too. You see, if you put a quality oil on your skin and hair it sort of breaks the cycle of scrubbing all the oil off your skin, only to have it overreact and create more oil until you scrub it dry again. And so on. We then put unnatural oils on our skin that are not meant to be layered on our faces and hair and it weights it down and clogs our pores and we wonder what the HECK is happening. I mean, mineral oil is the devil, and it is in everything.
I kind of began my oil journey a couple of years ago with Josie Maran’s argan oil from QVC. This stuff is 100% pure argan oil, not the crap stuff you buy at Walgreen’s. I think the whole point of this is that generally speaking, you can’t get a super quality and effective oil at the drugstore (though I’ll prove myself wrong in a minute here…) ANYWAY, Josie Maran’s oil is awesome. It comes in a dropper bottle and I would use it as my moisturizer after washing my face at night and I woke up to baby soft and moisturized skin. I then used it on the ends of my hair before flat ironing, on my cuticles before going to sleep, etc. You could use this stuff head to toe and it is just ridiculous in a good way. I never broke out EVER from this and I DO get breakouts occasionally from hormonal crap. I also love her tinted moisturizer and her oil face wash (which is too expensive to use all the time, bummer.) The lesson is, a great, QUALITY oil is so important to use. Especially this time of year when skin is dry and horrible. Damn winter.
Back to the drugstore! I was in either CVS or Walgreens the other day and was looking for a new face wash. I love Philosophy’s Purity and CeraVe’s foaming face wash, but then I saw that Burt’s Bee’s has a new 100% natural oil face cleanser. It was about $15.99 (which is expensive for drug store stuff), and I figured it was worth the try. I use it at night to take my makeup off, and it is crazy. You put it on a dry face with dry hands and it literally melts your makeup away. It takes two seconds and I rinse off and put a moisturizer on (either oil, or my retinol and night cream.) I love it so far and will keep you posted as I continue to use it.
Finally, I’ve spoken abut my magic shampoo journey that I’ve begun, and I think the main point of WHY I love this stuff so much is that it is 100% natural (sense a theme here?) and is centered on Rejuvinique oil as its main ingredient. No wonder I love it so much! It is infused in all of their products and helps the body in its natural oil production. My face and hair have literally never looked better (and I abuse it all the time with hair dye and heat styling!) I’ve replaced my beloved Josie Maran argan oil with Rejuvenique oil intensive and it is just as amazing (if not more?) I use it on my face after I wash it morning and night, as well as on my hair and hands. It makes me hair super shiny and my skin really soft. I also put it on my scalp before I work out and it helps with dryness there.
The whole point of this post is, natural oils on your face and hair help your body do it’s job and DON’T make you break out. I promise! You trust me, right?! Oil is your friend, FOR REAL, as long as you are mindful of the type of oil you are using. Quality is the key here, as it whether it not is is natural. Synthetic stuff with kill your skin, so don’t use it!
Tell me, have you used oils in your beauty routine? Which ones?
