This time of year (under 20 degrees, frigid, lots of snow…), I’m a strictly pants and a top kind of gal. While I will pull on a dress or skirt on occasion (with some fleece tights!), I prefer to be cozy and warm. My favorite way to shop for tops is to browse Nordstrom online and often enough I get ideas through other bloggers on what is new and cute out there. This is what I love about style bloggers… I get to see real clothes on real bodies on a regular basis. I find it hard to judge how something will fit by looking at one fit model online, so seeing brands and looks I love on a familiar face is priceless to me.
Here are a handful of tops I’ve bought lately )a lot on sale!), and what I love about them!
Here are a handful of tops I’ve bought lately )a lot on sale!), and what I love about them!
1) I posted the picture above on Instagram and Facebook last week and got a lot of questions via email about this sweater. I own it in two colors (blue and cream), and adore it. It is heavy enough to keep warm, but the shoulder cutouts give it a really cute look. It also has a high/low hem, it dips in the back to about mid thigh length and covered the bum area nicely. It is currently 33% off on Nordstrom.com! (I am wearing a small, though I probably could have done an XS. Free People usually runs big.)
You can see me wearing my blue version HERE.
2) ANOTHER Free People sweater I own (I know, I have a problem!) is also on sale right now (for 50% off!) I have it in pale pink (seen HERE) and black (seen HERE) and it is so soft and cozy. I really love a longer length, slouchier sweater and Free People always delivers on this.
3) After seeing this Stem cold shoulder sweatshirt on fellow blogger Cella Jane, I KNEW I had to have it. It was worth it! For under $50 it is cute enough to wear with a pair of distressed jeans and fringe booties, yet pairs equally as well with yoga pants and slippers at home (as I’m wearing it right this second!) It is a bit sheer, so you do need to wear a nude bra with it. I ordered a small and love it, but if you want it slightly slouchier, I would go up a size.
4) I think finding the perfect tee shirt is like finding a unicorn, nearly impossible, amiright? I used to swear by Old Navy’s boyfriend tees, but find that the fabric is a little too thick for me and it never seems to lay right. I have since found TWO brands that give the perfect tee: Free People and Lush. You see, the fabric has to be a little thin and drapey for a tee to work. I prefer a hem that either dips in the back and the front, or if it is longer length overall. I hate a short tee shirt! I have the black version go this Free People tee and LOVE it, as well as the gray Lush version right now. Both are great and have the perfect loose fit I love (without being boxy.) The Free People tee I have is true to size (I have the small), as is the Lush tee (bought a small.) You could go up a size in the Lush tee if you want, but you don’t need to in the Free People tee.
Pssst! I plan on getting this PERFECT white tee for Spring!
5) Okay, so TWO items that I bought from Target are also on my list of favorite tops right now! I’ve worn this reversible shearling vest on this blog a couple of times, and I never get tired of it. It is a great layering piece for when it is warm enough to not wear a jacket, and is so cozy and soft. I actually never reverse it (I love the shearing side out too much), but it can reverse to a charcoal color. I also have this softer than soft cardigan sweater in oatmeal, and I think I wear it almost every day? I love to bring it to work and wear it over a simple tee, or often enough I wear it over my nightgown if I don’t feel like wearing my bathrobe. It has a subtle sequin detail that does not take away from the texture, and is so perfect and comfortable. I wish I had it in the black version, too.
