I’ve said this before, but I’m not great at being casual. Inside my house I am a comfortable dresser (leggings, extra large hoodies, a crazy ugly full length fleece bathrobe…), but I rarely leave the house like that. When I leave the house I dress one of two ways: 1) I am on my way to the gym and I’m in gym clothes, OR 2) I am dressed up in clothes that I would show here, which is my happy place. I just feel my personal best in outfits that are dressier. My version of dressed up often involves jeans and some type of top/tunic, fun fringe ankle boots and lots of layered jewlery. I truly enjoy the process of putting together outfits and finding a look that makes me feel amazing.
That being said, I’ve been working on being more casual. (My best friend and I laugh about this, she congratulates me when I leave the house in yoga pants!) I’ve written about the athleisure trend before, and I’ve been getting into it more and more. It’s the sweet spot between my gym look and being fully dressed. It’s the look I turn to running errands with my kids and husband on the weekends. While I’ll always gravitate towards more dressed up looks, being my version of casual is a great option for those of us that truly enjoy the art of geting dressed. My personal style will always be a bit more dressy that most, and I am okay with that.
Fun fact: My 8 year old daughter is really sporty and doesn’t really enjoy dressing up. She’s happiest in sweatpants, sneakers, and a sweatshirt. She laughs at me when I get dressed up for simple outings, calling me “fancy.” I heart her.
Tell me, are you more casual, or do you enjoy dressing up more?
