I’ve previously written about the Keratin process I and how much it cost, what it entailed, etc., HERE, but today I wanted to give a little update since it has been three months since I got it done! First off, I am still SO happy I bit the bullet on this. I wish I could easily describe the freedom it has given me and how much time I’ve gotten back not having to think about/struggle with my hair this summer. I know that hair may not be at the top of things for most people to worry about in this world, but if it is something YOU have to spend a lot of thought on, I would recommend this a million times over. I can truly devote my time to better things (like playing in the pool with my kids, or working out without worrying about my hair getting wrecked), than whether or not I have time to do my hair getting it wet or not, or what the humidity will do to it. It’s so incredibly freeing.
I could go on an on about it, but without further ado, here are three things I’ve learned after having the Keratin smoothing treatment for 3 months:
- Initially your hair will be really straight and have little to no body for a couple of weeks. (You can see pictures in my initial post.) This gets better! My hair is naturally wavy, with a stronger curl pattern underneath. When I air dry my hair it shows that wave, and looks just about how it looked before when I had to blowdry, straighten to get the frizz out, and then curl it to get body back before the keratin treatment. I mostly air dry it now with a little oil and some volume mousse on my roots and it looks really good. I love the minimal effort it takes to get ready. I shampoo it about 3x a week, and on the days I don’t shampoo, I just rinse it with conditioner after the gym. Below are pictures of my hair air dried over the last month or so, though it is hard to show dimension with my hair darker again;)
- Your hair will be softer and grow faster! Since I rarely heat style my hair (I’ve used a blow dryer/straightener maybe 5x in the past 3 months), my hair is so much softer, and it grows faster (in my opinion.) I can see how much healthier my hair is since I stopped killing it by heat styling it 3-5x a week, and it my spilt ends have virtually stopped appearing.
- I have started seeing some frizz about 3 months in, but still nowhere near what I had pre-treament. I use a bit more product when it is wet to seal out the humidity (I mean, it IS July in Alabama!), and just has more body and wave. I’d guess I’ve lost about 15% of the initial smoothness. Maybe? It is hard to tell! The keratin treatment is supposed to last 5-6 months and I am curious to see what it looks like as it wears off. I am going to get it done again as I truly feel I can’t live without it, so this is my first little guinea pig treatment and I AM HOOKED.
Tell me, have you had a keratin treatment done? I’m happy to answer any questions you have via comments of DM me on Instagram (@meaganrigney)!
