When it comes to building a capsule wardrobe you have to think about the styles you want to wear over and over again, and then find the pieces you can mix and match in. Remember, you never need as much as you think! I tend to wear about 2 pairs of pants, and about 3-5 tops. Add in a cozy cardigan, a slouchy sweater or two, and a couple thermal tees and that is about it. You don’t need a million things, I promise.
Below are the KEY ITEMS I am buying and different options at various prices. So far I am looking at cute thermal shirts (see above), great jeans, an easy shoe that works casual or dressy, a fuzzy teddy coat, and maybe a cuddly fleece pullover. I’m open to grabbing things slowly and not getting caught up in frenzy of building a fall/winter capsule in 24 hours of less lol.
Let’s do this!
Thermal shirts:
One of my fave thermal shirts that I ADORE is from Urban Outfitter’s, and it is worth the $44 I bought it for, but there are some cheaper options from Amazon I think are worth trying out. I’ve seen this version on several bloggers and it seems the quality is legit. I am going to grab one in pink to try it out.
My favorite splurge thermals come from Free People. I love the hem on this one and will most likely grab one in gray and wear it constantly!
Sizing: I have the Urban OUtfitter’s thermal in small and it is huge. I would size down one size if I bought another one. Looking at reviews, I would most likely order the Imily Bela version in a medium for a looser fit. Free People is generously sized an XS is my go to size there.
Denim:
Denim is a key part of my Fall/Winter capsule, and I am very okay splurging a bit on good denim. This year I snagged a pair of AG jeans during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and they are perfection. If you are willing to spend $$$ on great denim, go with those. However, there are tons of less expensive options out there.
Madewell makes amazing denim and I can attest to their crop flares (feel like sweats), and their overalls. I am looking at their high-rise black skinnies as my next investment pair.
For less money, people RAVE about the denim at Abercrombie. Most are under $50, and if you hit the sales up (like RIGHT NOW, run!), you can score them for less. I’ve read good reviews about these distressed boyfriend jeans, and these super skinny jeans. Everything today at Abercrombie is currently 40% off! Praise hands!
Sizing: I wear a size 27, and I am true to size in both Madewell and AG. I typically wear a size 6 at Old Navy, and will often size up at American Eagle. I wear anywhere from a 6-8 at Abercrombie, so either go and try them on OR order several sizes so you can try on at home and return!
Shoes:
I wrote about the new wedge sneakers I am DYING over in this post, and I still stand by this pair. They are under $80 and the cost per wear when I am done will be virtually nothing #winning!
A cheaper (and just as cute pair) that I recently saw was this pair from Apricot Lane Peoria. I follow Jenna on Instagram and Facebook and she almost always have knockoffs for cheaper. These are worth a try if you are looking for this look for less.
Sizing: I sized up a half-size to the 8.5 in my Steve Madden wedges and they fit great. I would recommend doing the same if you are eyeing these.
Coats and fuzzy pullovers:
The coat that I have been dying to own for almost a year is the cuddliest thing in the whole world from Urban Outfitters. I don’t need a heavy coat in Alabama, so I can get away with something like this for all of winter. I plan on ordering it in gray as soon as I can. I had a similar version I bought at a local boutique last year and wore it to death, so I know investing in the Urban Outfitter’s one is right for me.
I’ve also been eying this fuzzy pullover from Nordstrom, but I found a VERY similar dupe from Amazon that I am going to order to see if I like it. I’ve been reading really awesome reviews about Amazon fashion lately and I will keep you posted on anything I buy there in future posts. I’d wear both versions with skinny jeans and wedge sneakers, or with workout leggings and cute sneakers. Perfect “mom on the go” look, lol. #comfortalways
Sizing: Reviews on the Urban Outfitters fuzzy coat says that I would fit a size small, which seems TTS to how I fit there. I know the Nordstrom fuzzy pullover runs large, I’d probably order a small for maximum coziness. The Amazon pullover runs small, so I’d order two sizes up, personally, for a larger fit.
