Happy 2019, friends! I love this day as much as I love a Monday, it’s a fresh start to begin again, or just continue with what you have already going on. It’s like a freshly checked off to do list, or the day all the laundry is done! I just really like new beginnings, both real and imagined.
Here’s the deal, thoug… I’m not doing any New Year Resolutions. I’m just going to carry on with what I have been doing. I want to take it more month to month here, and I’ll do this same post in reoccurring fashion each month to reaffirm what I am doing, what I’m learning, and how to apply to our lives.
To start, I do love when people choose a word of the year, and in the past two days I have had two words pop up for me. FOCUS and ADVENTURE.
Which can be kinda opposite of each other in a way, ha! I’ll explain what they mean to me…
FOCUS: I think in the past I’ve had a lot of goals in many areas of my life, and that has led me to be a little…scattered. I love self-improvement and learning and can go ALL IN on everything, and that often results in little change. I was listening to Rachel Hollis’ podcast the other day about goals and journaling and she spoke about the power of focusing on one thing until you get it. I freakin’ love that. Right now I am focusing on building my business here. I have a lot of things planned, and I know by focusing mainly on my goals here and letting the other things in my life go on more autopilot. I feel good healthwise, my kids and husband are happy, and most of the rest of my life is going really well, so I don’t need to focus there right now. Do you see what I mean? I could work on bettering all of these things, or really get into it in a big way on one thing. I think the ability to double down on one particular goal is so important, and I am going all in here and with my online business. So, focus it is!
ADVENTURE: This word for me means letting go of fear and doing things a little differently. In the past I have played it really safe in all areas of my life. I took all the impulsiveness out of my personality and became a lot more calculated, and while that works well in many ways, it kept me safe in my little box, you know? After I ran my first half marathon last month I saw that I could do big, scary things and that it could feel really good. I don’t have to play it safe! I can take risks and push through and have fun. I’ve seen this in many areas, but recently it hit me in a simple way. I looked in my closet and saw a really bland array of clothes. I mean, I love them all and they make it easy to get dressed, but I used to have more fun with clothes. I started this blog to showcase that part of my personality, and I think I have been more safe in the past couple of years because it was easier. I want to be less strict, less controlled, because not everything is meant to be perfect and controllable and easy. I want to say yes to more scary things, buy the wildly printed top because it makes me happy, or commit to the things that have always intrigued/scared me. I am ready for more adventure!
Now on to my intentions for the month. I honestly think that being intentional is the key to just about anything.
A lot of the time I stop myself before saying something and think, “What is my intention by saying this?” If it is anything but good, I don’t say it. I do the same when I create posts here and share things on Instagram. My INTENTION here is to always inspire you to live your best life, and I am working on that right beside you. If something doesn’t align with that mission, it doesn’t get said. That said, here are my intentions for January…
Each morning I get up before everyone else in my house and write in my journal a daily gratitude/appreciation list, then I write my ten big goals that I want to have happen in the next ten years (I write them as if they have already happened!), then I write a journal entry of something I want to happen in the future as if it already happened. Sometimes it is about a vacation I want to take, a house I want to build, a business I want to build, etc. I change it every day depending on what inspires me. I write one page each day with these things and then read them over when I am done. I have been doing this for the past month or so and love how it feels to write this down each day. It basically takes the Law of Attraction, Gratitude lists, Visioning, and Affirmations to another level and makes it a daily practice.
My exact morning routine from start to finish HERE
Drink three, 64 ounce bottles of water a day. I have been working on this for the past two months and it really helps my whole body feel good on a daily basis. I write it in my planner and make tally marks each day to make sure I do it.
I am working on linking my kipping pullups at CrossFit right not, so each day after class I do 5 pullups and try to link them together. So far I am linking two at a time, but the continued practice gets easier each day and the goal it to link as many as I can at a time during the workouts. I did this when I was learning how to do pullups and it works. I read somewhere that setting small goals with the number five in it really works. I’ve done 5 minutes of cleaning per day, 5 meaningful comments on blogs or social media a day, you can really do it for anything. It just helps to build the habit, and keeping the number small and manageable really helps.
Challenge! Where can you use the power of five to improve your life?
Can you walk five minutes a day? Do five push ups? Write five pages of that book you’ve always wanted to write? Read a book to your kids for five minutes?
Something simple that I am working on, is to wear more color! I have a very neutral closet that I LOVE, but it could stand for more excitement. I asked my Trunk Club stylist to send me some fun color pieces in this my January box and I am excited to see what is in it! See my September and October Trunk Club reveals here.
My last intention is to just create something every single day, whether that be a blog post, a story on Instagram, a Facebook Live, a newsletter that inspires, an upgrade to a post, basically anything that serves you and helps. I love learning and creating and having something tangible at the end of the day that I have created here is my goal. Since I am focusing on building this community here, I am mostly creating things that help here, and I have a ton of ideas. I also feel really good when I am writing and doing videos, so it obviously makes send to do that more!
Okay, whew! That was a lot. It’s going to be a great first month of the year, I can feel it.
P.S. If you’re curious about the exact morning and night routines I follow (that have seriosuly changed my life!), you can grab my free guide HERE, or just out your info in to the graphoc below and it will be yours, Yay!
