Let’s talk capsule wardrobes.
First of all, they don’t have to be as strict as they come off being. I don’t restrict myself to a certain number in my closet, and I don’t ban myself from shopping. What I do, though, is create a super curated look that carries across my closet for a season or two. In real world speak, I come up with a uniform or two, I create a color palette that I want to wear, and then I buy pieces that fit into those categories.
For example: I feel my personal best in a longer tunic type top and skinny jeans, and I like to stick to the colors white, blush, gray, black, and olive. I have some small pops of mustard and red, but mostly I stick to the neutral colors. That means, I only buy clothing pieces that fit into my uniform look, and I shop within my color palette. That way all of the clothes fit together when I mix and match them. Super simple, right?

This week I wanted to narrow down my most worn pieces in my winter/colder month capsule (I live in Alabama, so this lasts me from October-March!) These are the pieces I wear daily, and you can mix and match them all! Let’s do this!
Free People gray thermal in gray. I wear this probably 1-2x/week and it is something I would absolutely snag in another color since I know I reach for it so much.
Off the shoulder Abercrombie thermal This is another fave of mine! I initially bought it in the mauve color, then snagged it in white when it went on sale in November. I wear both of these probably 2x/week.
Urban Outfitter’s thermal in white. This is a top I bought last year and it transitioned well. I love the slouchy fit of it and would grab it in another neutral color.
Free People gray tunic in gray. Another fave. I got this in my Trunk Club box and love the length (can be worn with jeans or leggings) and it goes with everything.
Free People cream colored tunic sweater in cream. I grabbed this sweater recently during the after Christmas sales and I am in love! It is the perfect length and I love the fit. I would get it in another color.
Barefoot Dreams cardigan in cream. I bought this when I saw it on air on QVC and it is deliciously soft! It works over most of my tops as a warm/interesting layer, and I love the length and fit of it.
Graphic tee in black. I’ve had my particular te for two years, but linked almost an exact copy. I love this layered with a cardigan, it gives an edgy look to any outfit. I wear this tee year round.
Scalloped camisole in black. Another top I got in my Trunk Club box! This camisole works for everything…layered under sweaters, paired with a cardigan, or on its own. This is a year round basic for me.
Boyfriend jeans: these come in and out of stock, but I LOVE these jeans! They look great with just about anything, (though not a tunic length top.) I always either half tuck a top into these, or wear a shorter top.
High waisted demim My first pair of Abercrombie jeans, but not the last. So comfortable and a great price. I go up one size in these jeans and wear a size 28.
Black distressed jeans Another pair of Abercrombie jeans. I don’t like these as much as my other two pairs, but they work for now and the price is great. I will probably invest in a pair of Madewell skinnies soon.
Blue distressed jeans these were a complete splurge and a bday gift for myself, and I got them on sale during the Nordstrom sale last summer. These are worth stalking on sale only, I would never paiy full price. I think finding a good denim COLOR is hard, and I haven’t found a pair I like better in this color for less. These are true to size, I wear a size 27.
Olive colored pants You guys KNOW these are my jam! So amazing, I will probably pick them up in black and white. Size up! I bought a size 8 an normally wear a 4 or 6.
Spanx faux leather leggings These are the best. They work casually with a tunic, and dressed up under dresses or with fancier tops. Worth every penny, though I like to stalk them on sale. Size up, I wear a medium in Spanx. An amazing basic that you can build many outfits around.
Zella high waisted leggings These leggings are great! You can work out in them, lounge in them, or wear them as regular leggings with real clothes. I’ve had mine for 2 years and they still look like new. These are a great basic and worth the splurge!
Aerie loggers These are new to me this year and I love them for at home. I sized up to a medium (about right for this brand), and love them with oversized sweatshirts. Super comfortable and soft and cute.
Camel buckle boots The boots you see above. OBSESSED. I will wear these year round. I have them in black, too. These are true to size, I wear a size 8.
Slip on heeled mules Another pair I love that are more Fall-ish with the open back. They make your legs look endless and work with almost every look. True to size.
White boots I love these because they make every outfit look cooler and more edgier! Also, they are super soft and comfortable. True to size.
Madewell slip on loafer I bought these on sale and they are so easy. They work for cooler temps only if you don’t see snow. A great, classic shoe. True to size, I wear a size 8.
That’s it! I don’t currently have a need for big winter coats where I live, but I did live in Michigan for 4 years and grew up in New England…so let me know in the comments below if you are interested in seeing a post dedicated to cold weather accessories and coats!
