It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written about my morning routine, so I figured I would update it here since I tend to tweak it every couple of months when I get bored OR, I learn something new I want to incorporate. Let’s dive right on in, shall we?
My morning routine
5:10am: My alarm goes off and I get up and make a cup of coffee. This is my favorite time of the day and is worth that early alarm! This hour before the kids wake up and the house is quiet is the best. Once I have my coffee I sit on my couch with my journal and phone and headphones. I listen to a podcast first (I’ll include my fave podcasts and books below!), and sip my coffee. In my journal I date the page, and then write a few things I am grateful for/appreciate from the previous day. I take a minute to really feel the feelings that come up from the things I am grateful for, and also jot down some notes from whatever podcast I am listening to if I’m inspired to.
Around 5:40 I write down my ten goals for my life ten years from now, as if they have already happened. I’ll often write down more details for each one, and think about how it feels to have achieved these goals. (THIS podcast explains this process better!) Then in the time left I will do a little meditation. I either do my own or do a guided ten minute one I find on YouTube. There are a ton there! Meditation is key and I do this exact routine Mon-Fri and often on the weekends if I can (though I give myself a break and just do regular personal growth stuff on those days;)
6:15am: My kids are awake and come out for breakfast! They come out of their rooms fully dressed for school, and I make them breakfast. I make them a hot breakfast on school days (nothing fancy, but it varies each day), and I make smoothies for my husband and I. We drink a smoothie every single morning and we am obsessed! I am not a big breakfast eater, so this helps me get some nutrition and protein in without having to make actual food. My smoothie recipe (made in my Ninja blender): 2 cups spinach, 2 scoops protein powder, 1/2 a banana, 1 spoonful of peanut butter, the fill with water and ice and blend. It’s really yummy and fills me up FOREVER. After my kids eat breakfast I grab stuff for my son’s lunch (I premake sandwiches and add in the other stuff), and they both pack their bags for the day. We get my daughter’s hair brushed, and head for the bus stop at 7.
7:15-8:15am: This is the hour I have between dropping m kids off at the bus stop and my CrossFit class. I’ll clean up a little at the house (I like to do quick, 5 minute cleaning sessions each day,) chat with my sister-in-law on the phone, and then head to the gym and stretch. I typically listen to a podcast on all my car rides if I am not talking on the phone or my kids are with me (though I make them listen to some of them!)
8:15-10am: I do my CrossFit class OR run depending on what I am training for at the moment (see my 1/2 marathon training HERE), and then stay after class and chat/stretch/do extra work. I love my CrossFit community and this is one of my favorite parts of the day! Knowing my friends are there always motivates me to go. I wrote a post about having a gym community HERE, I think it is the key to motivation, honestly. If I have errands to run, I do them right after I go to the gym so that when I get home I can dive into my to-do list.
That’s it! I can dive into my work stuff and how I build routines around that if that interests you in another post, but these are the things I do each morning during the week to create great habits and routines so I can achieve so goals of mine.
