I just wanted to keep this short and sweet and share a couple of things that have really helped me mentally during this weird time. On one hand I feel like we are starting to get in the flow of always being home and fully embracing and loving it, and on the other hand I cannot wait for it all to go away and to resume “normal” life. Whatever that is. If you follow me on Insta and watch my stories, you know that we are moving next month, which has so many unknowns. We DID sell our home here last week, but have no home to move to as the rules are more stricter with real estate in Michigan. This past month or so has been a challenge of learning to SURRENDER, give up CONTROL, and just go inward.
So! Here are a couple of habits/routines that I have built into my day to help manage my emotional self. These are the things I NEED to feel good emotionally and mentally and having this part of my life stay the same has been EVERYTHING.
1) Exercise has been a big part of my emotional health these past 6 weeks or so. My CrossFit gym has been closed so what I have been doing for fitness, and relying on for community, has changed. For the first 2 weeks I simply walked around my neighborhood each day. It is a 2 mile loop, so i just plugged in my airpods and listened to a podcast and walked. Then about 4 weeks ago I restarted the BBG program, since it can be done at home w/minimal to no equipment. I just finished week 4 and I feel great! I also still walk my 2 mile loop about 3 days a week. I’m not doing ANY of this to lose weight or to look a certain way, I just know that I feel better mentally when I move my body most days.
2) While I don’t set my alarm for 5:15 am anymore, I do still wake up before my family and do my morning work. Here is what I typically do…
Make a cup of coffee and sit on my couch and listen to a podcast.
The I open up my notebook and write 1 page of whatever. I either free write, ask a question and write what my intuition says, take notes on the podcast I listen to, etc. I just try to write a full page to clear my mind and it sort of flows. I like gratitude lists, intention words for the day, and affirmations. (My fave is “Everything is always working out for me.”)
After that I either do a DRE or some work from this program I am a member on (The Pathway 2.0 by To Be Magnetic), or I do a 10 minute meditation using the calm app.
3) The last thing that makes me feel really grounded is reading and drawing. I am a huge reader and being able to read even more has been awesome I like a lot of romance and self help! I just finished Tim Ferris’ Tools of Titans and basically highlighted the whole thing. I also bought a drawing book from Target and have enjoyed drawing while listening to a podcast. I also jazzed up my blog with a new design, took a course, cleaned up my Insta highlights, and I am teaching myself a couple of fun things that I’ll unveil soon;) This has been a really good time to evaulaute and learn and just explore. It is amazing how creativity comes out to play with lots of excess time.
These are just little routines I build into my day to help me feel more like ME during this crazy time. I am also homeschooling my two kids and managing their lives as well. I can get into that another day if you want! That’s a journey as well lol.
