I got my first one when I was 36, and I’m pretty happy I waited till then, because my interests have changed a lot over the years. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted, and then once I did I just KNEW.
My first tattoo was these birds on my left wrist. They are for my husband and two children, and also I love the scene in ‘The Notebook’ when she makes him say, “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.” I love how simple and pretty it looks, and that most of the time they are seen just by me. They make me happy every single time I look at them.
My second tattoo was a feather on my rib cage. Feathers are my sign from the Universe that things are working out for me, always, plus I love the Emily Dickinson poem, “Hope is the thing with Feathers.” I loved it so much I had two more tattoed on my right side, so they look like they are drifting down my side. Those are obviously hidden more, but they do peak out in a bathing suit or a dress. They are almost my secret, something for me to love and enjoy.
I think I have one more in me, something I am marinating on until I decide. I know it will be some sort of script on my right arm maybe, I’m just not sure yet. I like the possibilities stage where anything is possible.
How about you, do you have any?
