“Nobody is thinking of you as much as you are thinking of you.”
Have you ever agonized over what to wear, or worried about being tagged in a group photo, or stressed about being seen and judged at the beach in a bathing suit? You worry and worry, and then go to the event and (hopefully) have a great time. Now quick, when you look back, what were other people wearing? What earrings did they have on? What about their shoes or the color of their suit? Can you remember?
Most of the time for me the answer is no. I’m so stuck in my own head that I rarely notice the details around me. Sometimes I do if it is a special occasion, but I can’t even remember the color of the shirt my kids wore yesterday or what my friends wear from day to day. Yet we get stuck, paralyzed even, over these choices for ourselves. Some people will notice, but most will not. In a world where most of our lives are online and almost everyone we know can see what we are up to minute by minute, it can feel like we are always seen.
But you know what? Nobody cares like you do! And the ones that do and have something to say? They aren’t your people, and anyone that comments negatively about it is going through their own thing anyway.
That thing you are insecure about? People are too busy worrying about what they are insecure about. Most of us are trapped in our heads, quietly panicking about the judgement of others. Including myself. A lot of us have been raised to see that only the outside stuff matters, what people think, how we are seen. But what do YOU want? What do YOU need right now? If you think about it I bet an answer pops right up into your head…can you follow it?
If social media didn’t exist and no one would see you, what would you be wearing/doing/feeling?
