Meagan Rigney

travel series (or how to pack)

August 13, 2012      Leave a Comment

My fabulous mother bought me this luggage last year and the cosmetic cases this year. Before, I packed in random, un-matching, ugly as sin luggage. I love having pretty bags to pack my clothes in! These are hard sided, take corners like they are on rails, and make me look cooler than I am. Thanks mom!

When I travel I like to use my favorite products, but don’t like to take the large sizes. I go to Ulta and purchase my favorite shampoos/lotions/etc in trial sizes so I know I will be comfortable. I don’t like to risk my hair/make up/ skin routine while on vacation because that it typically when I want to look my best.

I have a separate case for all my jewelry. I usually pack a lot as that is the easiest way to transform a basic outfit into something fun. Bold jewelry is best as it is more memorable. I also wear fake rings to save my nice stuff (where I am more likely to lose it) and it is a chance to jazz up my hands with rings I will likely never afford. The bigger the better, baby.

When it comes to shoes I TRY to go easy. I never wear all the shoes I bring, so I limit myself to either brown or black (this helps with belts and bags as well.) A comfortable sandal, trendy yet easy to walk in oxfords and some wedges for dressier occasions is all I need. In the winter I would bring one pair of flat boots (and wear them on the plane to save space), one pair of ankle boots (can be dressed up with tights and a dress) and maybe a pair of Uggs.

When choosing outfits I will pick one item, say a pair of bright blue skinny jeans, and then find two or three shirts I could wear with them. That makes at least three outfits that can be rolled tightly for space. All of these options can be dressed up down with different shoes and jewelry.
Another outfit idea, taking a basic white tee and finding something to dress it down (blue jeans) and dress it up (a mint colored floaty skirt.) Again, these outfits can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and jewelry you pick.
Bright cardigans and belts can be the game changers of any outfit. They help any outfit become more interesting and layering is always a good thing if you don’t know what the weather will be like. I also like to pack a  fun colored clutch to bring in case some fun night out presents itself and you don’t want to drag a big tote out with you to dinner or drinks. In the winter I would wear my jacket while traveling to save space.
I love packing dresses that can be both casual or dressy.  I would wear this dress with simple sandals and a cute hat in the day with a cross body bag for day, belted with wedges, a colored clutch and fun necklace for night.
An example of how I like to dress while travelling: simple basics like a white tee and jeans that are jazzed up with a bold necklace, funky sunglasses, cute men style oxfords and an interesting colored cardigan. Throw on a crossbody bag for sightseeing and hands free fun and you are set. I love taking the basics and making them pop. Sometimes all it takes is bright lipstick and sunglasses to make you stand out.
P.S More to come tomorrow on airport style and how to travel with kids!

Grateful for…my husband (he makes me laugh everyday and is my best friend), my kids (the funniest, kindest, most awesome kids on earth), my family (who always make me feel loved), my friends (can’t live life without you,) my co-workers (I’m obsessed with you all, how else do I teach without you lol), and just feeling settled after 20 years of moving.

Happy 13th birthday to my baby boy! He’s loving, Happy 13th birthday to my baby boy! He’s loving, affectionate and always willing to lend a helping hand. He talks extra loud on his video game headset with his friends 🫠, grew approximately 6 inches this year, and his voice has deepened so I keep thinking another man is in the house(!) But still, he’s my baby and always, always will be. I love watching his dedication to playing all the sports, being his mom is just the best. From the second he was born and they placed him on my chest, my heart burst with love for him. He’s pure magic and also currently taller than me and I don’t know how 13 years have passed but I have loved every second of them.

Also, an ombré mani that I can’t stop staring at. I feel like in the winter I like nail art and in the summer I like simple neutrals.

This weekend…. Picked up our oldest after 11 da This weekend….

Picked up our oldest after 11 days away at summer camp (with no phones/no contact!) and it was amazing. Love this kid!
Travelled 3 hours across state for a lacrosse tournament that even included an afternoon at the beach 🙌🏻
On Sunday drove 1.45 hours to pick up Molly from camp, then drove 1.45 hours back to watch the boys play in the championship game (lost by 1, boo…), then drove 3.15 hours back home.
But! My babies are back home and all is well.
Our hotel had Direct tv so I was reunited with my beloved Hallmark and watched a few Xmas in July movies 🙏🏻

Anyone know how to steam Hallmark? I need it back in my life 😞
