My husband asked me the other day why I didn’t focus on Fashion Week on my blog and it got me to thinking. I love hearing about what is new and following other blogs when they go to Fashion Week, but I made a conscious effort not to showcase it much because honestly, I don’t feel that it makes much of an impact in my everyday life.
Most likely I will never get to go to Fashion Week or be able to afford anything that is shown. My life is about being home with my family (for now.) I can’t afford the looks that come out on the runway and would much rather interpret them through more affordable brands. I just can’t fully relate to those that can afford high end things or spend endless weeks in New York. I am not knocking those that can, good for them! It looks wildly exciting and I love reading about it from their viewpoint. I would die to be able to wear the looks coming off the runway or be sent designer gift bags, but that is not my reality.
I consider myself a lover of fashion. I read all the magazines, generally know what is in or trendy and love incorporating it all into my life. But I have to be real. I have to go to Wal mart and buy toilet paper. And eat dinner at 5pm with my kids. Does that mean that I am not interested in high fashion? No. It just means I can appreciate it from afar. I want this to be a place for real people like me. Women that live everyday lives who want to look great.
