Linking up with Sami for Weekend Update!)
It is slowly coming to me that this is really our last couple of months in Florida. There have been two extensions and lots of “are we moving or aren’t we’s”, but now it’s on. I’m excited! We have lived in the South for ten years now. I literally packed up three boxes of stuff from college and moved to the Bahamas with my (then boyfriend) now husband way back in 2002. (Oh, what I would tell my 21 year old self….)
We have since moved to Pensacola, then Miami, then Jacksonville. One condo, one apartment, two houses, two children, one cat. Not to mention the 3000 square feet of furniture/stuff we have accumulated. My head hurts just thinking of it. The good part is, when you are in the military they move everything for you! They walk in and pack it all while you sit and watch. All I do is double check that they are packing the right things and quickly pack all my underwear in suitcases so they don’t touch it. Ewwww.
Now instead of dreading the hot summer and wishing it were colder I find that I am really appreciating Florida for the first time in a long time. Flip flops? Don’t mind if I do. Bare legs and tee shirt? Yes please. I want to enjoy our last months here. We have a trip to Disney planned in February (we are surprising Molly for her 5th birthday!) and maybe even a weekend away for my husband and I, too.
This weekend we drove to the beach and took a long drive looking at beach houses and inhaling the salty air. I live inland a bit and rarely get to the ocean in the “winter” so it was nice to be there in temps under 100. I’m gonna miss this town and my family (mom!)
BUT, I am so excited for this next chapter. You see, we are moving to Traverse City, Michigan in June. Nineteen hours in the car with two kids await us (yikes!), and great friends at the end.
Now about all those winter clothes I need to buy…
