When I was a little girl I would look at pictures of my mom from when she was a teenager in the 70’s. She had long, dark hair parted in the middle and she wore bellbottom jeans and peasant tops. Waaaaay back in the 80’s I though she looked seriously out of date. In 1987 I also had a side ponytail and a hypercolor sweatshirt and scrunch socks in coordinating colors, so you might not want to trust my judgement. just saying…
Now (now!) I look back at my mom and see how effortless and cool she looked. (Darn it, why is she always right?!) I find I’m drawn to that glamorous hippie look that so defined the 70’s. Easy separates that don’t cling to anything, long maxi skirts and denim cutoffs. I love how Nicole Ritchie exemplifies this look today. Lately, I have been pinning a lot of her outfits onto my Pinterest boards (along with all the other hippie looks I can find!) I love how easygoing she looks, yet still pulled together. Like a young, cool mom. Who doesn’t want to be that mom who looks young and cool?
Oh! And socks! Now that I know where we are moving next year I am dreaming of cozy woolen socks and leggings worthy of a ski chalet. A bit romantic? Yes. I have a version of winter in my head that is 10 years in the past and will be forgotten the first day I sit there shivering in my house. Until then just let me play around with the fantasy that I will be sipping hot cocoa while I wear fabulous winter apparel, okay?
P.S. A fun style book that I love that reminds me of 70’s style, right here!
P.P.S What era do you identify with? I have two. I love the 50’s for ladylike style and the 70’s (surprise!) for the hippie look.
