Have I ever mentioned that I really, really, really like to be cozy? I like dressing up and playing around with clothes and such, but if I’m not comfortable I can’t do it. Buttoned up collars, really tight things, they just make me itch inside and make me long for the moment I can rip everything off and put on my flannel pajama pants. I guess my personal style can be defined by coziness, then? Which doesn’t make me groundbreaking by any means, but I figure that if I feel good in something then I project that comfort to others. I bought this sweatshirt at Old Navy a couple of weeks ago for $10 and I have worn it 24/7 since then. With skinny jeans and boots, with my sweatpants and slippers at home (my typical uniform) and dressed up with this fun bit of faux leather yumminess I found at Target. Is it me or is Target killing it right now? Everything in there wants to jump into my cart, like it knows I can’t shop right now. Cruel.
When I find inspiration on Pinterest or in magazines I don’t like to copy looks exactly (though sometimes I do if it really blows me away), but mostly I tweak it to my lifestyle and routine. I’ve been loving the mix of sweatshirts and dressier pieces and I also like mixing in a bit of leather for day as well. I mean, how else can I get away with a skirt like this on school drop offs if I don’t “dress it down” with a sweatshirt? I’m hoping it makes up for the slippers in the car rider line look? Is that too many questions in one paragraph? Ha. Adding in warm and comfortable fleece tights (I’m obsessed) and my new leopard booties makes it more weather appropriate. Especially since Michigan just remembered that it is Fall and not late Summer. Since I stay at home with the kids and don’t get a lot of opportunities to dress up I like to find a look that gives me the balance of wearing something meant for the office or a night out and making it work for me and my daily life.
Tell me, do you like dressing things down with more casual pieces? What makes YOU comfortable?
P.S. Julia from Gal Meets Glam dressed up her Old Navy sweatshirt, HERE. I adore her and her style. It sure would be nice if she just shifted everything from her closet into mine;)
