℅ Lulu*s crochet maxi dress (comes in different colors, too!); Target shoes, sweater (similar), and hat (fedora option, beanie option.)
One of my favorites ways to dress in the Fall, when temperatures can range from bitterly cold to surprisingly warm, is to take a quintessential “summer” item and transition it to another season. This dress from Lulu*s is about as Summery as you can get! It has crochet details, it’s backless (ooh la la!), and it has a soft cotton maxi skirt that is really floaty and fun. Oh, and it’s white! Since I DO subscribe to white after Labor Day, I think adding on different shades of white makes styling this look really fun. I do this a lot, and most often not in the warmer months, too. Maybe it’s the inner rebel inside me? I’ve done this twice in the past two weeks (see a pants versions HERE), and it just feels right.
When I take a warmer weather item and try to make it work for Fall and Winter, I add in weather appropriate add ons. A chunky sweater, a cozy hat, and (typically) a pair of fleece tights and ankle boots. I rarely find anything in my closet that can’t transition with some clever layering, and I think the look above proves that. In the Summer I can see this with simple gladiator sandals and a kimono for a little coverage, OR a flower crown and the same nude heels for a date night. I also love that this dress comes in other colors, the black version is a great way to add drama to this otherwise simple and sweet style. And shoot! The soft pink also rocks my world;)
Tell me, do you wear Summer items well into Fall? How do you transition your wardrobe?
P.S. Please check out how my amazing friend Megan from Chasing Davies transitions HER Summer look from Lulu*s! Megan and I are both mama’s of two little ones, and we love sharing how we put looks and trends together while balancing mostly CRAZY lives;)
