I was talking on the phone with my sister in law last week (discussing world peace obviously….just kidding!), and we were comparing blogging today with what Carrie Bradshaw did on Sex and the City. Rather than writing for a newspaper column, most of us publish our thoughts and style journey via more digital means. Yet both activities are the same thing, only technology has changed the game for us all. (Don’t even get me started on how outdated a lot of SATC is now, because that show was amazing and it makes me feel old when they show off their flip phones and don’t do email in earlier episodes….)
I digress.
Blogging for me has morphed from mostly just a style standpoint and has become a place where I can be a storyteller. I love coming up with little kernels of thoughts that I can turn into a piece of writing and be published daily. I love the challenge of keeping it fresh and new, and the consistency I have to have to keep coming back day after day. I love that I get to sit here daily and just write. To open up my soul and pour out my thoughts, to edit and revise and create something new and fresh. I often find myself at my desk with one single thought or idea, and then it pours out of me and becomes something I can be proud of. I love sharing my words with others, but mostly I like what writing does for me inside.
I may not have written a novel, or make huge money as a published author, or have a huge following. But I get to call myself a writer, because I sit here daily and create stories and ideas from my own head. I find I get my happiness not from the style posts I do (though they ARE fun for me!), instead I get the most joy from writing something that resonates with others. Whether I’m being real or honest, funny or weird, I like sharing pieces of my life here.
I’m a blogger, a writer, and a storyteller, and that suits me just fine.
