As some of you may remember from this post where I talked about my morning routine, I write 3 things I am grateful for in a journal every single day. It’s the first thing I do (after making a cup of coffee!), and it is just automatic at this point. Yet I noticed something a couple of weeks ago that kind of shocked me.
During the 6 ish months I’ve been writing things I am grateful for, only 1-2 times did I write down a THING that I owned. Almost all of the things I am grateful for are experiences or feelings.
I see themes a lot when I’m writing things down. I write about being grateful for family dinners, just the four of us. I write about being grateful for pizza on paper plates and family movie nights. I write about conversations I have with people who make me feel good. I write about how pretty and cozy the fire is in my home on a cold night.
There are so many things to be grateful for, and I truly believe that we can find something to be happy about even in the darkest moments. It’s sort of like looking at things in a more positive light. I can complain about only getting five hours of sleep, or I can be thankful that I got five hours and can rest more later.
Our minds are powerful things. We can either create more positivity or bring in negativity into our lives just in how we think.
Tell me, what is ONE THING you are grateful for today?
